The Canadian Cancer Society
is a national, community-based organization of volunteers, whose mission is the eradication of cancer
and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer. If you or someone you care
about has been diagnosed with cancer, the Canadian Cancer Society can help. Some of the types of
services offered are:
Information
The Canadian Cancer Society provides comprehensive and reliable information about all types of cancer,
risk reduction, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and dealing with side-effects. The most current
information about clinical trials and cancer services is also provided. The service is free,
confidential and accessible from anywhere in Canada.

The Canadian Cancer Society Cancer Information Service is a toll-free telephone service available to
answer questions about cancer and community resources.
Clients can talk to a cancer information specialist Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Service is
available in English, French and many other languages.
On The Internet (www.cancer.ca)
The Canadian Cancer Society website offers information about cancer, as well as information about how the Canadian
Cancer Society helps people living with cancer.
To find out about Canadian Cancer Society programs and other services available in communities across Canada,
clients can use the Community Services Directory, a searchable database with information about more than 4,000
cancer-related services.
Printed Materials
The Canadian Cancer Society produces a variety of print publications to help people learn more about cancer,
screening, diagnosis, treatment and risk reduction. These materials are also a helpful source of information for
cancer services that are available in the community.
The materials can be found at the Cancer Information Kiosk at the Cancer Centre. Some of the publications are
available in languages other than English.
Local Unit Offices
In addition to the Society’s toll-free number, clients can also contact or visit their local Society office
for information and referrals to other community and government organizations that offer cancer-related services.

Peer Support (1 800 263-6750)
Support from cancer survivors and caregivers is available over the phone, in person and in group settings.
Clients can access support programs by calling our toll free number, contacting their local unit office
or visiting the Society website at www.cancer.ca. The initial service is bilingual (English and French)
and volunteers can support clients in many other languages.
Transportation
The Canadian Cancer Society transportation program helps people get to cancer treatment if they can’t
get there on their own. Clients can find out about the transportation program by calling their local
unit office.
Support At The Cancer Centre And Quinte Thousand Island Lodge
Our volunteers are here to give support (providing friendly visiting, organizing recreational activities, etc.)
for people at the Cancer Centre and at the Lodge.
Smokers' Helpline (1 877 513-5333)
The Canadian Cancer Society Smokers’ Helpline is a confidential service where trained quit specialists provide
counseling, answer questions about quitting and refer clients to services in the community. Smokers' Helpline is
free anywhere in Ontario and support is provided in English and French.
Call Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and weekends, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Or visit
