Patient and Visitor Information

Your First Visit

The main purpose of your first visit is to meet the doctor and to discuss treatment options.
Your first visit will last 2-4 hours and although we carefully arrange each appointment delays can happen. Please do not arrange any other appointments on the same day as your first visit to us. We encourage you to bring someone with you to take notes and for support. You may want to write down and bring with you any questions you or your family have to discuss with the doctor or nurse. Please bring all your medications with you.

When you arrive at the Cancer Centre check in at the reception desk in the main lobby. You will need to give the receptionist your provincial health insurance card and any information or test results that your doctor might have sent with you.

You will be met in the main lobby and taken to an examination room. A nurse will talk with you and get your medical and social details. You will then see your oncologist who will talk with you and examine you. It may be possible to reach a decision about your treatment plan at this visit. You may need other tests and investigations to assist in your treatment plan; we will arrange these for you if they are required. Your treatment will not start until everyone, including you, is satisfied with your diagnosis and treatment plan.
