The Quinte Thousand Island Lodge
The Lodge is a hostel-type accommodation operated by the Cancer Centre. Patients and any
medically required escorts can stay in small private bedrooms with shared toilet and bathroom
facilities free of charge.
Escorts who are not medically required can stay in the Lodge at a cost of $45.00 a
night if there is space available. Only those patients who live more than 40 km from
the Cancer Centre and are capable of walking up and down stairs unassisted and can look
after themselves are able to stay in the Lodge. The Lodge is not wheelchair accessible.
The Cancer Centre is a short walk away from the Lodge.
The Lodge is open and staffed from Monday at 8:00 am until Friday at 4:00 pm. The Lodge is
not open on statutory holidays or on weekends.
The Lodge staff does not provide medical and nursing services. Medications are not available
in the Lodge. Guests must bring any medications they are taking with them.
Dress at the lodge is informal.
Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the Lodge property. You may not drink any alcohol while on
the premises, this includes the patio area. If you do not follow the smoking and drinking
guidelines, you will be asked to find other accommodations.
Each resident is accommodated in a private bedroom with a telephone; this phone can be used to
reach the Lodge attendant day or night. Residents have to pay for long distance calls and it is
suggested that calling cards be used. Shared washrooms are located on each floor and showers and
bathtubs are found on the second floor. There are laundry facilities for residents’ use between
4 pm and 9 pm daily. Residents are provided with a key to their room and personal belongings and
valuables are the resident’s responsibility.
There are TV lounges for all residents to use along with a dining room. The Canadian Cancer Society
provides some day and evening activities for residents to participate in.
There is a computer for residents to use and keep in touch with their families and friends by e-mail,
to play games on or to use the Internet.
The Lodge provides a free continental self-serve breakfast service including toast, cereals and
beverages. There are also free snacks available all day such as fruit, cookies, soups and crackers.
Special dietary supplements are provided to residents if needed. For main meals many residents find
it convenient to bring their own pre-frozen meals from home. Residents may use kitchen facilities:
freezer, toaster, fridge and microwave (note: there is not a conventional oven) to store and prepare
food. There are nearby cafeteria facilities in the Kingston General Hospital and there are many
restaurants and food stores in the downtown area.
Parking is limited in the area. Residents can pay for parking in the KGH underground lot. For transport to and from your home please contact your local Canadian Cancer Society office.
