Cancer Prevention
The Public Health Units are a Key Resource
Public health is concerned with the health and well-being of the whole community
rather than the treatment of illness and disability. Local Public Health Units
focus on several key areas in their programming: preventing conditions that may
put health at risk (health protection), early detection of health problems
(screening) and changing peoples attitudes and practices regarding healthy
lifestyle changes (health promotion) and finally, monitoring new and emerging
disease trends.
For more information about programs around cancer screening, tobacco use,
nutrition, physical activity, sun sense and alcohol use contact
the Health Unit in your community. or click on the links below.
