Surgical Oncology Increasing numbers of patients are receiving
surgery (which is localized treatment) as the primary, concurrent
and/or adjunctive treatment modality for their disease. Many
technical advances in surgical procedures have occurred over
the past decade (e.g. sentinel node biopsy).
Oncology nurses need to be knowledgeable of these surgical
procedures and their effects on the patient irrespective of
where they are in life cycle (growth & development stage).
