Systemic Therapy
Systemic Therapy Regional Network
Patients and their families would prefer to receive cancer treatment care such
as chemotherapy, biotherapy and other supportive therapies e.g. bisphosphanates
delivered as close to their homes as possible.
It is the goal of the regional systemic therapy network to develop
oncology clinics for the purpose of providing this type of cancer care.
Many regional healthcare partners have a formal arrangement by way of an
affiliation agreement with the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario at
Kingston General Hospital. The affiliation agreement is for the development of
a systemic therapy clinic. These regional healthcare partners include
Brockville General Hospital, Northumberland Hills Hospital, Perth/Smiths Falls
District Hospital, Peterborough Regional Healthcare Centre and the St. Francis
Memorial Hospital.
When feasible chemotherapy and biotherapy will be administered at an affiliated
site under the guidance of a local physician in collaboration with a Cancer
Centre medical oncologist. However, some patients will require complex
chemotherapy or biotherapy treatments and care of the Cancer Centre medical
oncologist therefore treatments will be initiated and continued at the Cancer
Centre until completion.
The Quinte Healthcare Corporation-Belleville General Hospital has a medical
oncologist and a well-established oncology clinic that administers
chemotherapy, biotherapy and supportive therapies. Both the Cancer Centre and
Belleville General Hospital work collaboratively in providing continuous cancer
treatment care regionally for patients and their families.
