Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario at Kingston General
Hospital
The systemic therapy unit provides a variety of systemic therapies for pediatric
and adult patients such as chemotherapy, biotherapy, and supportive therapies
e.g. bisphosphanates. As well, the nurses have specialized knowledge in the
accessing and management of vascular access devices.
Children: Systemic therapy is provided in a suite separate from

Adults: Systemic therapy is provided in a newly renovated suite
with the ability to accommodate 15 patients at any one time.
A multidisciplinary team of nurses (Primary Nurses, Associate Systemic Therapy
Nurses), Oncologists, Dieticians and Social Workers are available to provide
compassionate, supportive care. The Canadian Cancer Society volunteers provide
support for patients in the suite.

Kingston General Hospital
Consistent with the Cancer Centre, systemic therapy is provided for pediatric
and adult patients for haematological oncology, medical oncology, gynecological
oncology, urological oncology and pediatric oncology. As well, the nurses have
specialized knowledge in the accessing and management of vascular access
devices.
As well other members of the Multipdisplinary team provide medical and
supportive care to patients and their families. The Canadian Cancer Society has
developed an outreach program that provides cancer information to patients and
their families.
Clinical Trials
Registered Nurses administer drugs prescribed by the oncologist for those
pediatric and adult patients on clinical trials. For more information click

Systemic Therapy Regional Network
The Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario when possible will refer patients to
an oncology clinic closer to home.
