Diagnoses
The diagnosis of cancer usually entails several diagnostic
procedures, which generally include some combination of the
the following: physical examination, imaging (x-rays, MRI,
CT Scan, etc), biopsy, and/or surgery. A cancer diagnosis
can be an intensely upsetting experience, and is associated
with increased levels of stress, anxiety, and personal threat.
Cancer diagnosis and treatment is often coordinated by a
multidisciplinary team of professionals which include doctors,
nurses, social workers, psychologists, physiotherapists, and
pastoral care.
Cancer survivor support groups and organizations provide
a valuable service to people with a cancer diagnosis.
